Sydney day 1

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
After quite a pleasant flight overnight when we managed some sleep we arrived at Sydney airport to be met by Pete,a family friend, who lives here. On our drive to his house we passed the iconic landmarks which we will leave for our tour to show us and were soon in the leafy suburbs where he lives with his wife Les-Lee. As we showered and changed we heard the results of the general election, the first in which hadn't voted, but our votes wouldn't have made any difference. We had wanted to see some of Sydney that the tourists don't see so our first stop was the local ATM in a small parade of shops so we could post back to the UK a box of souvenirs etc that would take us over the luggage allowance for the internal flights we will have here in Australia. Then we took a drive through the local nature park through winding roads surrounded by eucalyptus trees to North Turrumma ,a riverside beauty spot where we enjoyed a coffee and toasted sandwich in the warm sunshine. The sun sets quite early and quickly here so we left in time to go to the local pub where we had fish and chips with some local beer and wine. We were joined by some neighbours Ian and Genevieve who came back home for some more wine and a whisky tasting session. We fell into bed after all that and fell soundly asleep in no time.
