Rockin' at the rock

Yulara, Northern Territory, Australia
This morning it was an early start to get to Uluru for sunrise. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for some really good colour on the surface of the rock. After returning from breakfast we walked towards the watering hole by the rock which for the first time in four years was dry and stopped to view the rock paintings that have survived. We then visited the Indigenous cultural centre and museum where there were local women painting and a stuffed kangaroo. We haven't seen one yet in the wild but have seen some poo! Later we went to Kata Tjuta to walk in the Wolpa Gorge, this rock formation is similar to Uluru but has more cultural significance and only has limited access with virtually no photography allowed. As the sun set we retired to a respectful distance and celebrated with a glass or two of Ozzie fizz but sadly the clouds had gathered so the rock was not as illuminated as it might have been. Dinner time we had a BBQ and studied the stars as this part of Australia has the least amount of light pollution.
