Barossa Bound

Nuriootpa, South Australia, Australia
We left Adelaide in a special purple bus and trailer complete with a G Adventure logo on the side which is our transport for our final week in Oz. We were bound for the Barossa Valley for a visit to some well known wineries. First was Penfolds, second Wolf Blass and thirdly where we had lunch was Jacobs Creek. Penfolds were the most generous with their tasting and was held in a lovely Art Deco building. Both Wolf Blass and Jacobs Creek had purpose built visitor centres in delightful countryside. We had expected to see a dry arid red earthed land but it seems quite verdant with a good mix of other agricultural crops. The towns are really small and sleepy with some lovely Australian country style buildings, bungalows with canopies over the front and were delighted to buy an old fairing with "a present from kangaroo island" as a souvenir. We did buy a couple of bin ends to sample too!
After lunch we visited a local cooperage who make barrels for export to the USA for their wine industry and the company is rather oddly owned by the French . Across the road is the St Hallet winery, another name familiar to UK drinkers.
