Our New Zealand adventure starts

Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand
An early start today as we walked to the bus station as revellers were making their way home from their Saturday night clubbing. We managed to use all our dollars for breakfast as we waited for our flight to Christchurch. Unfortunately Kate forgot her jacket at the airport security, having not been used to wearing it she didn't remember to pick it up after it went through the scanners. Such a shame as she has taken it all around the world to be used here in New Zealand and had put it on to travel ready for the cold here. The sun shone brightly as we flew over the Cook mountains and we had a great view of them. Kate's old school friend Jane's son Ian picked us up from the airport and took us to a cafe high on a hill overlooking Christchurch where we had a fabulous view of the city with the sun low over the horizon. When we arrived at our bed & breakfast it was like the Marie Celeste,an empty house but clearly lived in with the table laid for breakfast. After half an hour the owner's father turned up having walked the dog and a telephone call later it transpired the owner had been held up elsewhere but so returned to show us our room. The weather forecast is for cold and rain this week which is the official first week of winter here but it starts with a bank holiday tomorrow as it is the Queen's birthday,so we hope that some things will be open!
