The Jet Setters

Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand
Another fine sunny but chilly day so we delayed our departure from Queenstoun to travel on their cable car to Bob's peak high above the town. Fabulous views of the Remarkables,a mountain range on the other side of the lake and also the lake itself. There is also a Luge track up there which looked fun but we had a more exciting ride planned,The Shotover Jet. This is a jet propelled boat up and down the Shotover river doing 360* spins. Prince William and his Kate came here last year but sebastian and his Kate came today. To use an overused phrase,it was awesome, better than any roller coaster we have been on and lasted a full 30 mins. We were the first to arrive so we got the front seats, better view and less chance of getting wet.
Our next stop was Arrowtown,an old gold mining town that has stayed remarkably unchanged since its glory days . A lot of original buildings in its Main Street. The old bank is part of the museum which was very interesting. There was also the remains of the Chinese settlement just out of town where the Chinese miners lived and sadly their relations with the others was not always amicable. They finally left when the local shopkeeper and highly respected fellow died in 1925. Then it was off to Wanake, another lakeside town for the night. On the way we passed acres of cherry orchards all protected by fruit cages. We were the only campervan this evening and had a pitch with a fabulous view of the mountains we will be driving through in the morning towards the west coast and the glaciers.
