Blenheim, South Island, New Zealand
This morning we were picked up for a personalised tour of the Marlborough wine region, home to some famous and iconic white wines. Our first stop was the the Hunter winery, the original winery in the region, still a family run operation. We didn't see Jane H but parked next to her car,she is probably the most female wine person on the planet and her wines were delicious. They only make 100 000 cases per annum and to drink them in situ was a big tick!
Next was another family winery,Whitehaven right next door to a boutique fudge shop . Lunch was had at Allan Scott with a tasting and their Viognier was outstanding. Next was Framingham wines, sold in Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. This was followed by Serecens ,a vineyard that had rock and roll lyrics on the flagstones in the garden to accompany the music blaring out.To finish our tour we went to Dryland's winery. You may not know the name but they are part of the Nobilo and Kim Crawford conglomerate. Finally a visit to a boutique chocolate business famous throughout NZ,we couldn't resist buying some Macadamia shortbread to have with a welcome cup of tea when we got back to the van
