Te Papa

Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
This morning we walked along the waterfront in the bright winter sunshine passing the old harbour buildings that have been converted to make it a pleasant tourist destination with restaurants and leisure activities. Our destination was the National Museum,Te Papa at the far end of the waterfront. We arrived in time to be near the front of the queue for a special exhibition to commemorate the 100 years of Gallipoli. A fascinating selection of photos, artefacts and massive models of the doomed campaign. The rest of the day we spent looking at all the exhibits concerning the Maoris and the later arrivals and their giant squid. For dinner went into the theatre district and found a buzzy cafe/restaurant with good local beer that had been recommended to us by Jane,Kate's old school friend and also our guide book so a result.
