Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
Our B & B has a mini convertible for hire for the guests and we borrowed it for the day. We drove down the eastern side of the Cape towards the Cape of good hope, the bottom of Africa. Our first stop was Kalka,a small fishing village where we watched the fishermen attending to their boats and had a cup of coffee in a boho style cafe. The next stop was boulders beach where there is a penguin colony. They are such funny animals, waddling into the sea, falling over themselves in the surf and generally behaving like penguins. After a bit of drizzle the sun came out so we had the hood down and drove into the national park towards the Cape of good hope. The whole area has very low lying plants but we did see a couple of eland antelopes just by the car park under the lighthouse. We had a bowl of mussels in the restaurant there and had a fabulous view of False Bay to the East. We took the funicular up towards the lighthouse and then a short steep walk up to enjoy the view of the two oceans meeting with the breakers crashing into the rocks below. Then it was time to return to Cape Town via he western side across the vertiginous chapman's peak route, through camps bay(as we couldn't find a parking spot) until we found some tea stalls to stop at and view the sun setting over the Atlantic. We carried on into Cape Town to the Bo-Kaap district to have a Cape Malay curry.
