Sea Point, Sea Point, South Africa
Today we decided to visit the Cape wineries but things didn't go quite as we had planned. Our tour driver didn't turn up as scheduled so the owner of our B & B rang the taxi co they use and arranged for a driver to take us instead. Our driver,Kathryn, was brilliant. She drove us first to a butterfly park where there was a collection of rescued small animals. One parrot even landed on Sebastian's shoulder (he does look like pirate at the moment!) The next stop was our first winery,Fairview wines, known in the UK for Goats do Roam and the goat that roams spends his time in their iconic little tower.Next was a visit to Franschhoek,a town founded by French Huguenots. As it was Bastille day many of the shops had tricolours festooning their fronts. Lunch was had at the Graff estate where we had another tasting. Our final tasting was at the Lanzerac estate where we had a wine and chocolate tasting session, really quite delicious. They were the first winery to produce a Pinotage wine,SA 's signature grape in the 1950's which is delicious with a chocolate covered cherry. Upon our return we found an apology from our original tour company,2 bottles of wine and an offer of a free tour when if we return to Cape Town.
In the evening we took a taxi down to the V & A, Africa's most visited tourist attraction for dinner with our NZ companions on the first part of our safari who like us are spending a day or two here before flying home .A great way to spend the last night of our world trip.
