Dubai day 1

Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
we flew overnight from London arriving a bit bleary eyed but eager to make the most of our short stay. we took the metro unlike most of the hundreds of other travellers and amazingly for this quite expensive city remarkably cheap (£2) to go right across to the other side of the emirate to the marina where our apartment was. of course we managed to go right past our stop which we didn't notice until we didn't see any more skyscrapers and things started to look a bit deserty. changing trains at the next stop was no problem and we were soon alighting at the right station. confusingly the metro station is linked to a tram station which has a different name which is the one used on the hotel directions. a short walk to the hotel where we found Angharad waiting for us and we were able to check in to our apartment early. right up on the 26th floor with some amazing views from our balconies. time for a quick shower and a cup of tea before we set out to see the sights.
we took a taxi to the burg khalifa, the tallest building in the world and took a trip up to the top where you can walk out onto a viewing platform and gaze upon all the skyscrapers below you . the burg is in the Dubai mall, the most visited mall in the world with a huge aquarium and a series of waterfall walls.by now it was time for the fountains to start their show,in daylight first but then as we were having dinner overlooking them the lights added an extra dimension to the half hourly shows.
