Tehran, Tehran, Iran
our final day visiting the sights of Tehran and our guide asked us if we'd had enough of carpets as we were supposed to go to a carpet museum first thing. surprisingly we said yes so he took us to the Milad tower, their telecommunications tower. up the super fast lift and the whole of Tehran was before us. the tower is now the Tehran iconic building replacing the Azeri arch which we could see in the distance far below. as we were in the north of Tehran it was a short drive to the old shah's palace. it was quite small building but set in delightful parkland and delightfully cool. the rooms seemed quite restrained and not at all over the top but there was a splendid globe drinks cabinet in the billiard room...very retro. for lunch we tried ash, a lentil, veg and meat stew (£1) and a custardy pudding in a cafe across the road from the big bazaar where it appeared the whole of Tehran was shopping as it was the beginning of the weekend.
