Serengeti day 3

Arusha, Arusha Region, Tanzania
today was our last day in the serengeti. we drove across a watering hole and admired the dazzle of zebras as they came to drink, easily spooked by the simplest of noises and they disperse in a panic. on this occasion it was a duck defending its nest against some guinea fowl. at the next watering hole they stayed well away as a hyena sauntered past, dunking itself in the water as it passed. we passed through what was leopard and rhino territory but saw none. however we spotted a caracal and her two babies and three rock hydrax instead. following the course of one of the many little swampy valleys we spotted a very large pride of lions(17) headed by two brothers with at least 5 cubs. they were relaxing after a successful kill and one cub was still chewing on the impala carcass. it was here of course that our electrics failed again so we were pushed by the second vehicle a hundred yards away for our driver to hit the battery terminal. as we crossed over the watercourse we spotted a raft of hippos. after a bush lunch we headed out of the park passing the rocky outcrop which pride rock in the lion king was based.
once out of the park we climbed back up the side of the ngorogoron crater to our campsite .we are now 2400 meters up and the air is decidedly fresher and an extra blanket has been issued but best of all hot showers were available to slough off all the dust from the serengeti. after dinner we all sat round a big campfire and discussed the many highlights of the serengeti
