Nungwi day 3

Nungwi, Tanzania
to take our minds off today's news we walked through the village to the local turtle sanctuary. the village itself is a collection of low level breeze block houses built on sand with no obvious services entirely built to house the people to service the beach side hotels etc. there is a small fishing community here whose little outriggers and dhows catch the fish for our suppers. just underneath the lighthouse lies a couple of sea fed lagoons where turtles are protected, many have been caught by fishermen and find sanctuary until they reach 25 years old when they are released into the sea which is when they start to mate. it was fun to feed and pat them,if the tide had been in we could have swum with them in another lagoon. walking back along the beach we stopped for a beer and looked at the tourist divers returning before taking a swim in the hotel pool which had been closed for maintenance during our first two days. in the evening we went to have dinner at the restaurant on the beach where we had our beer today.
