En Route to Jakarta

Yangon (Rangoon), Yangon Region, Myanmar
We were ready at 7 to get a taxi to the airport as were advised it can take up to 2 hours but it only took us 30 mins.We found a comfy seat with the air con and waited patiently with just enough cash to buy a coffee when we've checked our baggage in. Eventually we got through immigration and check in with a slight hiccup as sebastian's yellow fever certificate wasn't returned at the desk. Luckily he noticed before going through and managed to retrieve it. Our remaining currency was of no use as the only coffee shop was priced in dollars and more expensive than some meals we've had! We've loved Burma, the people are lovely, very friendly and incredibly trustworthy. The only downside is that the air quality is appalling, many people on our tour were having throat problems,we certainly were. Very reminiscent of Delhi 2 years ago. We have flown with so many different airlines over the last couple of years, sometimes they are dry but that doesn't really matter if the food is nice but our malaysia airlines today was the worst food so far, more like something given to old people in hospital but not even with a cup of tea,at least you'll get one of those if you're on a ward! Thankfully K/L airport has a starbucks but they had no normal tea so it had to be a coffee. Half the price of the coffee shop in yangon!
We boarded our second malaysian flight not expecting much and we were not disappointed . The food was slightly better, still no hot drinks but the best bit was the lady behind us complaining that her dish had pork in it and she didn't eat pork. The steward said they had no pork on board, everything was halal and what she had eaten was aubergine. She was adamant that it tasted like pork even though she didn't eat pork.hmm!
A very easy process going through immigration and customs and having braved the chaos of the taxi ranks we were off towards the city within 40 minutes. Friday evening is probably not the best time to arrive as the traffic is horrendous as we rode the elevated motorways, down across alleys of south asian shops and stalls, motor bikes everywhere weaving in about the 3 lines of cars in a 2 lane road. All around bright neon covered high rise mall complexes towered above us. Eventually our cab driver got us to our hotel where a welcome beer was in order.
