Bali Bound

Kota Surabaya, Jawa Timur, Indonesia
A early morning's drive to the airport for our flight to Bali. We drove through the urban sprawl of lock up shops and the endless motor bike repair shacks until we found a new bit of motorway which sped us to the airport in Surabaya, the largest city on the east of java,a busy port and apparently the busiest airport in indonesia. This seemed surprising as the domestic departures was really quiet. Time for a coffee at european prices before our lunchtime flight. Due to the addition of an extra hour in bali we arrived at our hotel at 5pm. At first glance Bali is far more first world than java. The streets seem clean, the pace of life slower but prices are higher. The pool was very inviting,as was the beer in the mini bar. A quick shower after our swim and we were ready to board a rickety small van as public transportation to take us to a restaurant on the beach. Sand between our toes, the gentle surf breaking on the shore and prawns and snapper sizzling on the grill. Bliss.
