On to Ubud

Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali, Indonesia
A late start is his morning as some of our group trekked up the active volcano opposite our hotel to see the sun rise. Those who stayed experienced an earth tremor from an earthquake a few miles off Bali. It lasted about 20 seconds, nothing fell down thankfully and there was no tsunami so we didn't have to follow the evacuation route signs which have replaced the volcano ones we saw in java . Our first stop was a coffee plantation where we saw the processing of the beans to the finished coffee. All done by hand, particularly the cat poo coffee! We saw the civets that produce the world's most expensive coffee. Thankfully here it was only 4US$ a cup and a great photo opportunity where we tasted all the teas and coffees they produce. Apparently the slaves in the plantations were not allowed to touch the commercial crop so cleaned up the cat poo to obtain their coffee. As it turned out they had discovered a far better coffee. It was actually very nice and left a huge sediment in the bottom of your cup.
Our next stop was the holy springs temple where the balinese go for a spiritual and physical healing in the waters that bubble out of a black sandy pool . The temple has been there for over 1000 years and their first president built himself a big house above it. Close by was our lunch destination,a charity providing help for disabled people who are rather shunned in their own culture. The meal was probably the best of the buffets we've had so far in bali and we of course bought a little picture.
Not far was our destination Ubud,a party town in the middle of Bali and our hotel a forest haven right in the middle so a simple stroll for a meal and live salsa music.
