Rottnest Island

We awoke early to catch the 7.15 ferry to the island,home to the legendary Quokka,a cute little furry animal unique to the island. The island is a great tourist attraction with holiday let's in old buildings and chalets dotted about. However one side of the island is completely natural and most people hire bicycles with their ferry tickets. The beaches are all lovely and sandy and the water is very clear,ideal for snorkelling although we only saw a few fish. We cycled around stopping to admire the views and the quokkas who are everywhere and very tame. We crossed the island passing salt lakes to the busier side of the island where most of the holiday lets are and the beaches busier with more boats from the mainland moored up. We enjoyed a refreshing beer before getting the return ferry as the sun set. When we landed we had to put on an extra layer as the fremantle doctor ( the afternoon breeze ) had picked up
