Albany day 2

Emu Point, Western Australia, Australia
Albany was the port from which the ANZAC troops left in late 1914 for the ill fated Gallipoli campaign. George the third sound is a huge natural harbour and easily coped with the number of ships required. There was a beautiful view of the sound from the old barracks on the hill above the town where we had a guided tour of the renovated military buildings which also houses a fantastic interpretive museum about the ANZAC expedition to Gallipoli , the western front and the middle east. Quite a sobering couple of hours. We also walked up to the mounted army monument where a recent renovation has spruced the area ready for next week's ANZAC remembrance day. About 5000 people are expected and it is beamed down to the local theatre.
Then it was down the hill to look around the town, lots of traditional wooden buildings with verandas and a replica of the brig Amity which arrived in 1826 to start european settlement in western australia .
