The Barossa day 1

Angaston, South Australia, Australia
Good Friday so hot cross buns for breakfast from the local village bakers, much tastier than the ones we have had elsewhere in Oz. Suitably refreshed we went for a walk around Angaston. Lots of old buildings fronting directly on the road, typically South Australian. We finished our stroll walking along the old railway line, now a cycle track,to the back of Sacha's house.
After lunch we took the Barossa tourist drive around the area . Our first stop was a photoshop high in the hills above the valley with a great view of it.Just underneath was rather a strange sculpture park. We drove through a local " Bournville", Seppeltsfield, built in 1851 and unusual in that the winemaking was by gravity like old fashioned brewing. As part of the plan the roads were planted with palm trees to give shade and there was a fine view of one of the earliest Lutheran churches which had a vintage pioneer display. We passed through Tanundra and recognised some of the old buildings we'd seen nearly two years ago never thinking we'd be back. Soon we saw the unmistakable Penfolds winery and we stopped to have a beer at the bar on site. We crossed over the road to see where Sacha works and looked at the ancient vines. In the evening we went to the local Thai restaurant which was excellent.
