Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
We awoke to heavy rain and it was a very misty journey through the forest to the station. We could hardly see whether the train was in the station and nearly missed it chatting in the car. As we arrived in the city the rain had stopped. A short walk to the museum of south australia past the old and new parliament buildings. All were typical municipal buildings of the late Victorian era. The museum has a wonderful collection of aboriginal artefacts and we spent a very informative couple of hours. We enjoyed a filling sandwich in the cafe before going next door to the state art museum. Some very interesting early paintings of the colony and a couple of works that we had seen at the Australian Impressionist exhibition at the National Gallery just before we left the uk. There was also a Mark Gertler ,an artist we both admire and some pre-raphaelites. However the most extraordinary and disturbing works were two pieces by Dynos and Jake Chapman. After advice from railway staff on tuesday we took a normal bus instead of the replacement bus service to the station to catch the train back to Gawler and the edge of the Barossa Valley where Sacha picked us up after work.
