The day started early as we had managed to get a balloon ride via the hotel and set off at 5.30am. Upon arrival we noted through the dark that although the equipment had arrived nothing was happening. As it got lighter all the trucks just took off. Apparently the wind above was too strong or would have been so the authorities would not allow any liftoffs. Great sadness all round. An earlier breakfast and a rest before we went off for a turk along the Rose Red valley. We passed along a narrow at times trail,through river hewn tunnels and passed by ancient abandoned cave dwellings. The trees provided shade throughout the valley and so we weren’t affected by the heat.

 After lunch a few of us arranged for our driver to take us to a local winery for a tasting. The local grapes produced very pleasant light quaffing wines but the wines made from vineyards near the Aegean had more depth and we bought a couple of bottles to chill in our hotel fridge for later.

In the evening we went to a Turkish dinner show just to enjoy a cheesy tourist thing. Off tomorrow for a home stay so no wi-fi until we reach Antalya on the coast.
