Easter Sunday - Mel getting better - Mum sick

Yangshou, China
Kate - Mel woke feeling a bit better but still no energy so Mel and I spent day in hotel room. Val gave Mel a packet of Easter Eggs - but she wasn't allowed to eat them. What a miserable Easter morning for the poor girl!!

We did manage to go out for 5 minutes to ring Peter to let him know what had happened . Poor Mel really wanted to talk to him but burst into tears. Apart from this, the day was spent in a small room. I was going stir crazy not being able to get out.

The others came back from their outing and we all decided to go over the road for tea. We ordered our meal. Before it got to the table, I got up and walked out, going back to the hotel. I felt a bit sick and more-so upset - it had been a long, hard, tiring two days. Someone brought me my dinner to the hotel room but I didn't feel like it.

Then I was sick! Only the once. We had purchased tickets to go to a light and sound show but I didn't feel like going even though I 'sort of' felt OK. Despite their protests, I managed to convince the others to go to the show while I stayed behind - disappointed and upset. I had been really looking forward to going to this.

After they left, I was sick again, then I got the trots. As I ran to the toilet, I had to decide which end was going in the toilet . Unfortunately which ever end I chose, I still managed to come out the other end at the same time. I tried to clean up the mess, but it was just too much for me. I had a shower and sat in there crying as I again lost control.

Poor Nana and Mel came back to a horrible mess. Nana called housecleaning to help her clean the bathroom - how embarrassing. Nana sent Mel to sleep in the other room with Pa whilst she stayed with me

I was in bed with all the blankets in the room on me – poor Mum must have been freezing even though she kept saying she was OK. Finally Mum decided to put some socks on me and I instantly warmed up. Gave mum her blankets back and went to sleep. What a fun night!!!

The following is written by someone else but talks about the show we saw which is mostly performed on the river that we caught the raft on this morning .

The photos are also by someone else.

The performance utilises the natural surroundings to create a spectacular outdoor theatre which is the largest of its kind. The Li River itself is the stage and twelve mountains serve as the backdrop.

The audience sits on specially designed terraces. The sound equipment is kept hidden from view as the theatre is designed to blend, merge and work with the natural environment. The changing weather and seasons bring something different to each performance and the fantastic lighting effects highlight the beauty of the setting.

The show also includes modern and classical music composed by famous musicians in China. There are also over 600 performers who are all local people.
The show gives us impressions of the life of those people living around the river. It also gives us an insight into the dress and music of the ethnic minorities of the area . At the beginning, the lights are all turned off - as the lights come up, the twelve hills appear in front of the audients; and a small fishing boat is rowed from the hills.

Hundreds of bamboo rafts with golden fishing lights are spreading all over the river.

Over 200 Zhuang girls form a long column across the bridge over the Li River. Their silver dresses make the river shimmer in a mysterious manner.
