Any lawyer will tell you that you never ask a witness a question that you don’t know the answer to. I thought I’d apply that philosophy this morning at breakfast when a woman asked to sit with us. I felt somewhat obligated to make an effort to converse with her, as opposed to sitting in awkward silence. Now, I don’t want to get too chummy with this woman. A polite, superficial, exchange of niceties was all I wanted. And then I could go back to my sausage and prunes. I turn to her and ask the one question that I figure is guaranteed to be a slam dunk. “Are you enjoying the cruise?”, I ask. BANG! That’s me shooting myself in the foot!
I don’t know exactly how many people are on this cruise, but I just happen to be breakfasting beside the one woman whom when I ask if she’s enjoying the cruise, responds “No…it’s my first cruise, and I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be my last”
Today we experienced our first rain day. There was a thunder storm first thing this morning and rain throughout the day. I figured if my breakfast companion couldn’t dampen my spirits with her hard luck story, no little bit of rain was going to do it.
Tonight we were invited to a cocktail party…a 45 minute cocktail party. Just enough time to get one free drink. But hey, that’s one more drink than I would have had otherwise. I take ‘free’ wherever I can get it on these cruises, cause there’s little of it to be had.
It’s early to bed tonight cause we have an early start to the day tomorrow. We’re heading out ziplining in Nicaragua…hmmm…doesn’t sound any safer when I type it then when I say it out loud. Kidding!! The place actually gets really good reviews on Tripadvisor. It’s gonna be a blast!!
Have a prune and forget I asked!
