Hurray for arriving!

Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland
I've always subscribed to the philosophy 'fail to plan, plan to fail'...until yesterday.  There's only so much that you can control when you travel.  Seems there's a lot more that is entirely out of your control.  You'd think I would have picked up on that before now...especially after my last trip, and the trip before that.  Fortunately, after the somewhat rough start to our travels, things got back on track and we arrived into Limerick a few hours late and no worse for wear.  And after so many examples of deja vu, I can't tell you how pleased we were to see our luggage come spinning around the carousel.
The original plan was to travel from Shannon Airport to Limerick on the 51 Express bus.  Of course, the original plan coincided quite nicely with the original flight schedule.  All that went for a shit yesterday.  Not a problem.  The bus travels regularly throughout the day.  So when our flight into Shannon arrived 15 minutes early, that stretched our wait time for the Express bus from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.  A helpful local advised that the 343 bus was out there now.  It's a local run.  Hmmmm, the 'local run' equals slow, indirect, and chalk full of grannies and grampies going from one block to the next with their bag of groceries, sensible shoes and weapon-like umbrellas that double as walking sticks.  But what do you do?  The alternative is to wait almost an hour to take a bus that will likely arrive at almost the same time as the local bus.  I've always been a believer of doing something over doing nothing, so we opted to take the local.  It took every bit of an hour to travel about 15 miles...but, it was both scenic AND culturally immersive.  All good!
By the time we arrived in Limerick, walked the 10 minutes from bus station to our hotel, and got checked in, it was around 6:30.  Just the right time to get out and stock up the ole 'room supplies'.  You know what I'm talking about Fay...cheese and crackers, chips, water, and cider, and a bag of ice.  It's a rarity to find a hotel in this country that actually HAS an ice machine.  The majority of the bag ends up melting down the sink, but 85c is worth every penny to have a nice cold drink in your room.
I do know enough by now that I shouldn't schedule anything for arrival day.  But it's a fine line.  When you're supposed to land before noon, it's nice to have something in mind to fill the afternoon before the jet lag forces you to crash and burn.  Luckily, our afternoon plan for today was nothing that we can't fit in again tomorrow.  So, with supplies laid in, we found a popular pub around the corner.  Now, I THINK it's popular, but on a Tuesday evening, it's quite difficult to tell.  After a quick snack, which included a pint of Franciscan Well Rebel Red for Kier (that was for you Shelley) and a Kopparberg Mixed Fruit Cider for me, it was back to the room for some r&r.  Rest now, for tomorrow we tour!
BTW...technical difficulties with the crap wifi at this hotel are delaying the upload of photos.  Hopefully I can find a fix for this before tomorrow night!  BTW 2 - not really a technical issue...just friggin' SLOW wifi!!!!
