Be wary of days that start too smoothly, for evil lurks! Just when you let your guard down, there lies the opportunity for disaster to creep in.
I was up early today, had a nice little run on the treadmill, didn't even have a trip and fall resulting in a broken bone, which is ALWAYS my fear when I run on a travel day. The garbage man showed up on schedule, also a bonus cause we missed our last regular garbage pickup, so the bags were piling up. After that we were ready and off to the airport a few minutes early. With only one quick stop at a bank machine, we made it at exactly 2 hours prior to take off. And you KNOW what's coming...don't you??
We've checked in online so only need the obligatory stop at the check in counter to obtain luggage tags. And that's when we hear it...'you're flight out of Toronto is delayed'. Surprisingly I don't curl up in the fetal position suffering from a vivid flashback from my last trip slash fiasco! Nope, not this time! Call it good planning or call it a typical Aeroplan reward ticket, which is likely more accurate, we have more than a 3 hour layover in Toronto before our Calgary flight departs. Our connection looks secure...for now!
Fast forward 3 hours and I can attest to the fact that our connection is INDEED secure...cause it's delayed as well. By an hour. But for those of you that remember my travel nightmare in May, you will know that it was exacerbated by the fact that I didn't have a cell phone. This trip, all looked after. I've made a call to the rental car company and determined that they are there till 2 am, so surely to gawd that will be sufficient time for us to arrive and pick up our vehicle. BTW, there was no offer by them to stick around till we arrived...just sayin'. Then I contacted the hotel and let them know my late arrival has now become a LATER arrival. All good, and all done from the comfort of my seat here in the Maple Leaf Lounge. No fuss, no muss.
And along the lines of 'bad luck comes in three's', I am now watching the movie I downloaded for my flight...and I'm watching it in 3 minute intervals. Seems that when my IPad downloaded it 7 times at home, it never once actually TOOK. So now I'm downloading it AGAIN, and watching it. After 3 minutes of viewing it cuts out and, after another 10 minutes or so I can watch the next 3 minutes. It's Hacksaw Ridge, and from what I hear, not a top notch flick, so perhaps it's no great loss.
Well, as it seems the remainder of this day is going to be spent in an airport or a plane, I will sign off now. Tomorrow is bound to be better day...we hope!!
