It was a wonderful day of r&r...and p. While a large number of the group went off to Venice for a visit, we stayed near the hotel for rest and relaxation. We had a lovely lie in till after 9 and then enjoyed a breakfast as the only ones in the dining room.
We went to the village and checked out the little convenience store which for some unknown reason is only open from 8am to 1pm, Monday to Friday. Mostly just a grocery stop for those that rent apartments here in the village, but a few important items for us, like some chocolate and candy for me and a couple of different types of beer and grappa for Kier. And I was finally able to score my first bottle of cider since arriving in Austria. It’s tough to find! It’s currently chilling on ice and will enjoy it this evening after dinner.
Today we just took the Madritchesbahn lift to the top and explored around before commencing our 1 hour decent. We could have spent a couple of hours just taking gondolas and chairlifts all around the different mountaintops, but I’m afraid to admit that they are all starting to look the same. It was a lovely and relaxing hike, as long as you’re careful to avoid all the cow paddies on the way down. They are everywhere, as are the cows and we even found a herd of horses. We can’t figure out the purpose of the horses, but figure they are used to pull sleighs or wagons in the winter months.
Once back down we relaxed around the pool and hot tub. We didn’t check out the sauna as there seem to be a lot of rules involved. The primary one is that no swimwear or clothing of any sort allowed. Now you’re not permitted to be naked either. The men have to wrap in one towel and the women in 2.
Tonight was Schuhplattler night! A traditional Austrian dance. It was quite funny, even though we couldn’t understand too much of what went on. I even got to participate..but to see that video clip you’ll have to wait till tomorrow. I just don’t get what all the kicking is about, and these guys don’t hold back...when they kick each other it’s to do damage! Just check out the video clips at the bottom of the page. Great evenings entertainment! And tomorrow, when I get the clip of my Schuhplattler debut, I’ll post it on Facebook for all to see!
And during the show they kept plying the participants with Schnapps. I lost count after 5 shots. And if you tried to sneak away without drinking it, they’d come and find you. Needless to say, my cider will have to wait till tomorrow night!
A wonderful day all around. Tomorrow we’re off on another hike!
