It’s amazing what conversations you overhear when traveling by train...even when you don’t really want to! We were nicely seated in the rear of coach 2 enroute from London Waterloo to Bournemouth. Directly in front of me sat Mr. Rhino. Apparently Rhino was heading to Weymouth for the day to enjoy some cycling. He spoke almost constantly on the phone during the trip. He told one caller that he had his bike with him on the train (not sure where he was storing it, cause there were no bikes in or near our carriage). The carriage was starting to fill up, and Rhino had his bag on the seat beside him. During one of his many phone calls, a woman boarded the carriage and couldn’t find a seat. Rhino was still conversing on the phone. Three times she said ‘Excuse me, is there anyone sitting here’, and 3 times Rhino looked out the window and ignored her question. She ended up moving on through to find another seat. So now we’ve decided his first name is actually ‘Rude’.
A while later Rhino receives a call from Josh. It’s a very short conversation. Rhino tells Josh that he submitted the TIY and what they do after that point is none of his business. Josh is getting quite heated on the phone because we can almost make out what he’s yelling. Rhino totally dismisses Josh and hangs up.
Josh calls back. Rhino tells him he is being very unprofessional and this is why he usually deals with Hillary because she is much easier to work with. Rhino tells Josh his behaviour is ‘atrocious’ and he doesn’t succumb to ‘bullying’. Threats of getting solicitors involved were thrown back and forth.
Now, I’m not certain, but Rhino’s accusation of unprofessionalism seemed a bit of ‘pot-kettle’ to me...cause who discusses business, let alone one that is apparently so conflicted, on a train, in public? No professionals that I know, Mr. Rhino!
We still don’t know exactly what the problem was about as we got off in Bournemouth and Rhino was continuing on to Weymouth. Was it a real estate deal gone sideways? Was it an investment scheme that took a tumble? Not entirely certain...but what I do know is that in spite of all the heated arguments, Rhino wasn’t even slightly put off his game. In between rants he casually read his paper and enjoyed the scenery. No doubt planning how his thick hide was going to enjoy that lengthy bike ride. Some people truly thrive on conflict! Rhino is one of them!
Tonight we went to see the Downton Abbey movie, and let me tell you...it did not disappoint! Loved, loved, loved it! No spoilers here...but I will say this, Henry Talbot wasn’t in it enough for my liking!
Tomorrow we’ve got the whole day to explore what Bournemouth has to offer. Can’t wait!
