If it’s not one thing...it’s another...

Saint John Airport, New Brunswick, Canada
We got up this morning with very light snow falling.  Yay!  Not looking like weather will be an issue here.  The forecast for Montreal is much the same.  All good, right?
And then I get THE EMAIL.  The one from EasyJet.  The one telling me that now the UK is forecasted to be hit by Storm Dennis with heavy rain and strong winds...so...some of the weekend flights may be impacted.  We can change our flights to something else from Friday to Monday, free of charge.
We are supposed to arrive in London at 7:30 Friday morning.  We have to travel from Heathrow to Gatwick via bus which takes 1.5 hours...so the early morning flight is out of the question, but the late afternoon is an option.  It is...except...it’s sold out.
We’ll soldier on...que sera, sera.  We’ll get as far as we can as quick as we can.  So was I surprised when my cell phone beeped enroute to the airport?  Not in the least.  I knew what was coming even before I checked...cause that’s the kind of day it’s been.  Yup...flight delay out of SJ.  But only a slight delay.  Our connections are still secure...for now.  And by the time we got our bags checked and nicely sat in the cafe to kill time, my phone beeps again.  The delay is actually SHORTENED...that rarely happens.  Instead of a 45 minute delay, we’re now only delayed by 25 minutes.  The confusing part is this...
So...when did the proverbial ‘wheels’ fall off of my travel life?  Obviously 5 years ago today things were good because I traveled to Fort Lauderdale without issue.  If I had to pinpoint it, I would say it was sometime around May 1st, 2017.  I remember the day well.  I was scheduled to fly to Glasgow to meet my sister-in-law, Fay, for a lovely couple of weeks.  My flight out of SJ was delayed so I would miss my connection to Heathrow.  Thanks to my gate agent ‘Edward Scissorhands’ whose fingers flew over the keyboard for a good 20 minutes before she found me a different flight to ensure minimal delays in arriving.  While Edward is madly typing...and typing...and typing...a fellow behind me in line, enroute to Shannon, Ireland, went up to the next gate agent who took, oh, about 5 minutes and he was all fixed up on a flight from SJ to Montreal and then onward to Heathrow first thing in the morning.  Apparently he got the last seat on that plane.  What did I get?  I got rerouted to CALGARY...and after an 8 hour stopover, I was off to Heathrow.  Travel has not been the same for me since.
Needless to say, I am well and truly running out of travel companions.  Sure, I have Kier, but he HAS to travel with me.  And Kim, Shelley and Fay...but they’re all ‘meet you there’ kind of companions.  But people who are willing to travel WITH me...start to finish...few and far between these days.  Can’t say I blame them...
Stay tuned...it’s shaping up to be a bumpy ride...again...
