One Sleep to Liftoff

Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada
It's hard to believe that we're this close to leaving. We booked this cruise last September...eleven months ago. After waffling on again, off again, about even taking the trip, we made our decision and we're all in. All our excursions are booked. I even broke down and bought tickets to Blarney Castle. After communicating with my friend Stuart in Northern Ireland who told me he'd been. It was just okay, he said, but he added that he'd actually visit again if he was in that area. Well, must have been better than okay to warrant a second trip. Plus, I hear it's quite a feat to hang upside down with someone holding your feet so you can kiss the Blarney Stone. If kissed, you are granted the gift of eloquence. Something that might serve me well on this little blog of mine. And the good thing is, we visit there on our second day after departure, so the positive benefits will last through most of my trip.

I've finally gotten off my butt and finished my packing . I was procrastinating a bit because of that pesky Icelandic Volcano that was threatening to blow its stack and potentially close all European airspace. We are all but certain that it will not impact our flight either way.

Now, I realize that when some of you (no names need be mentioned cause you know who you are...Shelley) see the picture of my luggage you are going to have some rather snide comments about packing light. Yes, I know I have 2 suitcases and 1 carryon. Yes, I know...I packed them, remember?? Why, you ask, do I take so much luggage? Well, I have a 3 word answer for you...because I can. With my aeroplan status I am entitled to 2 checked bags on any flight free of charge. Why wouldn't I take advantage. There just might be a souvenir or 2 that makes its way into my cabin and I would hate to have no room to transport it home!

Last order of business is to do our 24 hour advanced check-in. I'm not really worried about the flight being oversold, but I habitually check in early in hopes of improving my seating situation . I do have pretty good seats, close to the front (for those of you who read my last blog, you know that the front is optimum for quick disembarking) and although most of the cabin has 3 seats across, we are in a 2 seat row. Great. Won't have to worry about waking or climbing over some stranger who is zonked out of it at 3 a.m. with drool running down his chin. It'll only be Kier I have to wake or climb over. Not so bad!

I enjoyed a nice relaxing pedicure this afternoon, so the toes and feet are soft, smooth and shiny. I'm super relaxed and just waiting patiently for departure. The best part is that because of all the planning, lists, and organization, I don't sit here on the eve of the trip thinking that there's something I've forgotten. Let's hope that feeling doesn't strike just as we go "wheel's up" out of the Saint John airport tomorrow evening!!

Please tell me those packed bags are for you AND Kier, not just you. Damn, girl -- porters must either love or hate you! As for bringing home souvenirs, those puppies look packed to the max -- you sure you'll be able to squeeze more in? Cheers to an awesome time, not landing on your head while kissing the Blarney stone, and clear skies over Iceland. Oh, and when we go, you'll be doing the Beatles in Liverpool and having your pic taken on the zebra crossing at Abbey Road. Just so ya know!

Those are just MY bags. Since I pretty much only have to wheel them through Customs on both ends of the cruise, and then hand them off to someone to "look after them", why not! I will definitely pack lighter for our trip when I'm humping my own bags! And I look forward to recreating the Abbey Road cover with you and Kim S. I'm not sure which of us will be which Beatle, but we've got time to sort that out!

Good news is I will still have some room in my suitcase for the little book holder I promised you!

You and Kim can fight over the other 3 but George is mine -- always.

And thanks for taking an extra suitcase for my bookmark -- you rock!!

I have to agree with Shelley, those bags looked like they are already stuffed with little room for souvenirs. Are you going to make Kier pack some of your stuff home, so you have room for the treasures you find while travelling? (I have used this strategy with some success myself, but Guy is catching on).

That was the selling feature on my taking the second bag, so I could take some of HIS stuff! There likely won't be any room for THAT by the time the return trip comes along!
