Good times with old friends

Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Today we spent the day with my old friends of 35 years, the McLaughlin's. Stuart picked us up at the port and we went to his home and had a great lunch with his family, including parents Billy and Betty. We had a wee walk around his property, but didn't have time to cover all 38 acres. Our Stuart is a bit of a land baron, me thinks! The good news is that Stuart and Julia and the kids are planning a trip to the eastern part of Canada and the US and will be visiting with us for a week or so in August of 2016. It will be great to have Stuart visit as it's been at least 22 years ago since he visited with me in London, Ontario.

After having such a huge lunch with the McLaughlin's we skipped dinner in the dining room and settled for a snack this evening before our Movies Under the Stars showing of Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit . It would have been a much more enjoyable evening if we could have stretched out on the lounge chairs, however, an early evening shower made everything not under cover too wet to sit on.

Tomorrow is our first stop in Scotland.

It was actually Stuart's older brother Brian that I met in Montreal. I was on a girl's weekend, Brian was on a tour with his rugby team. A couple of years of exchanging letters and I went to stay for a month to visit. Stuart and I became fast friends and he visited me in London, Ontario. I've visited him and his family many times since and we've always stayed in touch. It's much easier now with Skype, Facebook, email, etc. Sometimes technology REALLY IS grand!!

I also spent sometime yesterday with an Irishmen, Pierce Bros sun ;)
Blair and I went to see November Man last night, and I'm glad to report the old guy still had it! Movie was just ok, but I still love me dome Remington Steele!

Fast fact of Belfast: hockey is getting yo be a big sport in Ireland. The Belfast Giants won the Elite league championship last year, and my husband, the hockey scout, tells me that several former NHL players have been playing in the league.

I always get an update on Brian's activities, but don't see him as often now. And Patti, I thought the only hockey they played here was field hockey! Wow, didn't know they even had ice here!

22 years ago?! How is that even possible. I've heard my folks say it many time but it's true...time does seem to speed up the older you get.
