It’s taken me to Day 5 of this trip to learn something about myself. I am NOT photogenic. Try as I might to get a cutesy picture of myself, something fun yet touristy, and they all turn out looking…well…geeky. Even today when we went out to Oxford Street for a little shopping. We went into a kid’s store. There was Mr. Bumpy. I didn’t KNOW he was called Mr. Bumpy until later in the day. I called him Mr. Blueberry, for obvious reasons. He was kind of cute, a bit cuddly…as cuddly as one can be when they’re as wide as they are tall...and so I got close for a big blue hug. Little did I know I was going to come out looking like a character from a horror movie…someone whose head doesn’t sit on their neck, but sprouts from their left shoulder. Scary!
In spite of the poor photo ops on my part, we had another fab day. After shopping on Oxford Street, we checked out Carnaby Street. It’s an “off the beaten path” shopping area with a few unique and some non-chain stores. Of course, there were purchases made by all!
For an entirely British activity, I thought it was only right that the girl’s experience a typical Afternoon Tea. And what better place to do it than on the 5th floor of Europe’s largest bookstore, Waterstone's at Piccadilly. Kim ordered lovely mint tea and when she opened her teapot there were tons of fresh mint leaves inside. Shelley ordered ginger tea and opened her teapot to find chunks of fresh ginger brewing away with several lemon slices. After those 2 found such lovely surprises in their teapots, I was anxious to open my pot to see what was brewing in my 4 Red Berry tea. Would it be raspberries, cranberries, strawberries or maybe even pomegranate. What did I find…a teabag….just a teabag. At least it was a Twinings teabag…and you can be sure I didn’t squeeze the bag, cause I KNOW that makes you bitter…and I was already bitter enough!!
Tonight was a trip to the West End to enjoy Motown the Musical. Great music, great fun. By the finale we were up on our feet, clapping and singing along. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow, our last full day in London, will bring. It promises to be an exciting end to a great stay!
