Wanganui, Wellington and the crossing

Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
Wanganui or Whanganui depending on choice was a cute little town, river running through the middle, great coffee, pub was so good for lunch we went back for dinner. Old style bridges crossing the river and beautiful trees.

Our Top 10 was nice, great games room, Kel handed me two pool games on a plate (sunk the black) and I won one all by myself, so yeah I won three of three, happy days . I am sure Kel is planning a rematch after my gloating.

The only strange part of this park was the immediate tap on the window as we pulled in, Sue and Pam with the colourful van, just needed to tell us that we had taken someone else's bay, so we check with reception and turns out the previous occupants moved to get away from Sue and Pam. Reckon they just wanted to check Tezza out!

Getting colder so we hunted out the best coffee in town before we headed off to Wainuiomata 45 minutes out of Wellington for some quad action @ wellingtonadventures.co.nz . We conquered the Wellington Forest in over 100 km winds at the top. Private booking and whilst more expensive it was well worth it.

Nigel bought the 150 acres for $90k from a divorcee 11 years ago, built a house with stunning views and crosses neighboring properties with the quad bikes through pine forest and to the top of mountain overlooking Wellington . The view is stunning although a tad windy....

There were some noteworthy incidents like cow poo flicking up and landing on my lap, and it wasn't from Kel or Tezas bike, I did it to myself! And then being last into the muddy water I decided to go for it, ended up with a free face mud pack. We went from top of the mountain through to forest and dodging pine trees, oops Kel hit one, Nigel was good though he said he missed the right path, good one.

Our last night in the North Island, nine great days of beautiful scenery, wonderful Maori culture and loads of fun. We went to Speights AleHouse in Jackson Street, very good food and atmosphere so big recommend.

Up early to head into Wellington, much easier to park than Auckland and we quickly find coffee, its a cold day and threatening rain so we are rugged up.

The Te Papa Museum in Wellington is amazing with ssix floors and huge variety, definitely top of our list . The Gallipoli WAR exhibit is on and it was breathtaking, the stories were raw, including the crude conditions the ANZACS had to endure, the pictures tell the story and the models were at least five times bigger than us with incredible detail, the sweat, the tears, facial expression and fear was very real.

Running out of time for anything else, we head to the Inter Islander to board 'Betsy', the Kea, of course we named her! Cannot believe the car go on this huge Ferry, Semitrailors, sea containers and a heap of cars and motorhomes. We set sail and try to find the forest we were quading on yesterday, lunch was surprisingly OK and we then head out on the deck to view, nearly froze our bits off.
