Fort Canning and shopping

Singapore, Singapore
So I did less 'stuff' today but it took more time, which was good. I started my day by going down to Marina Bay and seeing the 'Merlion', a statue of a mythical creature on the side of the bay. Then I walked up to Fort Canning park, a park on a hill that has a few different historical significances. I walked through the spice garden, and checked out the lighthouse on top of the hill, and then went around to find the Battlebox, a World War Two era bunker. I did a tour of the bunker which was really interesting and the guide talked about the events leading up to the Japanese invasion of Singapore, including the decision to surrender, which was made in the Battlebox. Really good tour! After that I went and grabbed some noodles for lunch and then explored Orchard Rd, where all the shopping centres are. I had a look in some of them, and the ones I picked did have some 'normal' brands like uniqlo and H&M alongside the Guccis and Pradas and all of that. All priced very similarly to home. I was getting tired feet by that stage so I headed back to the hostel for a rest and to do some research for tonight. After my rest, I ended up going to a street party in Kampong Glam, the Malay district, had some amazing ceviche for dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and met some people at the party. I ended up spending the night with them, mostly at the street party and then went to a club later. Successful New Years, Happy New Year everyone!
