Singapore, Singapore
Woke up early this morning despite the late night, so I had a quick breakfast and headed out to the Changi Museum and Chapel. This was a museum that spoke about the Japanese occupation of Singapore and what happened to all the POWs. Pretty heavy stuff for the morning, but it was a fairly small museum. Really interesting too, I learned surprisingly little about all of that during school and uni. After I finished there I headed back into town and stopped for lunch in a food court, where I had some rice paper rolls. I then spent the next few hours at the National Museum, which was absolutely great. They had a really interesting history section about the history of Singapore, and there were some overlaps with the Fort Canning tour and the Changi museum, so that helped. They also had some cultural exhibitions in growing up in Singapore in the 60s, prior to independence, an exhibition on living in Singapore in the 20s, and an exhibition on the move to independence and how Singapore has built itself into the country it is today, given it only became independent in 1965. There were also some really interesting interactive exhibits. There was a garden where if you touched/blew on/waved your hand over things, other parts of the garden moved - very cool and clever! And then there was a digital projected display of all sorts of natural things - flowers and animals and things, which was amazing. So by the time I got through all of that, it was raining again, but luckily today I remembered my raincoat so I just had wet legs and feet walking back to the station. After a brief wander around a shopping centre I headed back to the hostel for a rest before dinner.
