River & gardens day

Singapore, Singapore
So today I had a bit of a sleep in and then headed out and jumped on a river cruise up the river and around Marina Bay. It gave some history and stories and was a great vantage point to see the city. Our host in the boat was a bit of an amateur photographer, and enjoyed taking photos of us all, which was pretty handy! After I finished the tour, I had a look in a shopping centre which had my favourite Japanese bookstore, and then jumped back on the train and headed out to the botanic gardens. The gardens were gorgeous, with a huge variety of plants, including a special orchid garden, a section of rainforest, a ginger garden, and lots of other areas. I had lunch in the ginger garden, and the menu was a bit tricky so I got an heirloom tomato salad, which was actually amazing! I've found the food really interesting here, it's actually hard to get 'Singaporean' food (other than chilli crab, which is ridiculously expensive and meant to share, so haven't tried that yet) - similar to Australia, I suppose, there's lots of other cuisines to choose from. After the gardens, I jumped back on the train again (really enjoying how convenient the public transport is) and headed back to Kampong Glam, the Malaysian district, and did some shopping at the cool lane where I spent New Years. Got a nice bag :) I headed back to the hostel for a little while, but was starving, so went and grabbed an early dinner at an Indian place around the corner. Now about to get ready, I'm hopefully going to go and see the light show at the Marina Bay Sands tonight.
