Last day in KK

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
I woke up early this morning, unfortunately - I was hoping for a sleep in to kill the time this morning! I still have a bit of a cough and was conscious of waking up everyone in the dorm so I got dressed and headed out to find some breakfast. I ended up going for a fair walk around town, which was verrry quiet. Most of the shops don't open until around 11, so there wasn't much happening. I grabbed a pandan bun, a can of coffee and some dragonfruit from a shop and then went back to the hostel to eat. After brekky I had a shower and packed up my bag properly, putting everything in my little pack that needed to be in there and locking up the big one. I didn't want to walk around because I didn't want to get all hot and sweaty before the flight, but I was also conscious of not wanting to use up my phone battery just playing on the wifi! I ended up sitting in the bar for a while and then walking around to a cool cafe called The Workshop I'd seen with the other Intrepid people on our last day. Luckily it was the only shop/cafe in Australia Place that was open! I got a pineapple/guava juice, which was very nice, and had a look at the art that they had all over the place. Then I headed up to the airport bus stop to check the timetable.

After confirming bus times, I headed back to the hostel and killed time for a bit longer, before checking out at 11:20 and walking down to the bus stop. I was the only person on the bus! Two more got on at the other airport bus stop, but still a pretty empty bus. It only took 20 minutes to get out to the airport so I was a bit early, but was still able to check in and get rid of my bag. I sat down and had some fried rice noodles for lunch at a 'kopitiam' (coffee shop) before going through security. There's not a whole heap to do at Kota Kinabalu airport so I just found a seat at the gate and read my magazine while I waited.

The first flight was very easy, just read my Peppermint magazine and my book. Once I'd arrived in Kuala Lumpur I went through customs and the international transfer area and then went to find some dinner. I had laksa for dinner, which was great, and ended up chatting to some Australian guy who worked for the UN in Cambodia (on agricultural development!). So that was interesting. He had to run to catch his flight though, so then I ended up just reading and listening to music until my flight boarded.

Second flight was fairly straight forward, although the meal I thought was going to be breakfast ended up being second dinner. At least it kept me full for longer! I slept for a little while and then just listened to music and read my book for the rest.
