Quiet weeks and new restrictions

The Mayflower Pub, England, United Kingdom
It’s been a pretty quiet fortnight. School has been very busy, with an assessment last week leading to lots of marking and this week our school doing interviews for the position of head teacher.
Last Wednesday we had Peter’s mum’s 65th birthday and we did a Zoom call with a whole bunch of family – Peter’s aunt and uncle in Newcastle and Durham, as well as cousins in the Isle of Wight, Philadelphia, Reading and an old student in Washington. A very international video call! It was nice to chat to them all, and then we had movie night on Thursday night Stu and Rachel as usual.
I was feeling very tired by the weekend and Peter was working, so we just had a quiet weekend. I stopped by a bookshop and got my new Book Club book, skyped Clare and we had Justin over for a couple of beers on Saturday night. Other than that I just did some catch-up work and finished both of my books.
As predicted in my previous post, Covid cases in England have been rising at a fairly extreme rate, and London has been increasing far more than a few weeks ago. It was announced on Wednesday that London will be going to ‘tier 2’ restrictions, which means that from today we can’t spend time with other households indoors. This makes sense, although the idea that we can still spend time with up to 6 people from other households outdoors is completely ridiculous. There’s rumours swirling of a two week ‘circuit breaker’ national lockdown over half term (from either next weekend or the weekend after, depending where you are in the country), so we’ll see if that plays out – both Northern Ireland and Wales are doing that.
Luckily we had dinner with Cal at the pub (at a socially distanced table with no one else nearby and all the staff wearing masks) on Wednesday, so that was a nice little ‘last supper’ for eating indoors with others.
This morning I had a fun Virtual 30th for Josh with my Melbourne friends and tomorrow I’ve got book club but other than that it’s a pretty quiet weekend again. I’ve got a bit of a blocked nose so just trying to rest and recuperate so I can make it through the last week of term!
