As per last time, there’s not a lot to report from the last couple of weeks, other than our landlord harassing us again and the wild weather! We’ve had lows of -6 overnight and from Sunday to Tuesday it snowed constantly, if gently. Not much of it settles near our place, although there was a decent couple of centimetres on the ground at various points across the days. Down in Brockley there was much more though, and I found myself walking very carefully up the hill to school on Tuesday.
It was very peaceful watching it snow out the window during classtimes, although less peaceful during indoor breaktimes for four days straight due to the playground being frozen!
Back at school from the 1st February after self-isolation, we had a busy last two weeks of the half-term and have been watching the media very closely for announcements regarding schools returning.
Boris Johnson is due to give an announcement on the 22nd (first day back at school after the break) and said he’d give schools two weeks notice, so it’s fairly likely all the children will be back at school on the 8th March. I’m very excited that it’s finally half-term break before that though and am definitely planning a big rest for the week.
Annoyingly, it was just after finishing our self-isolation period that our landlord decided to hassle us again and after some very bizarre emails we had her over for an inspection the Thursday before last. She was clearly looking for evidence to use against us and was walking around tutting and taking photos of things like dust on the shutters, but luckily for us the eviction ban has been extended another six weeks, so there’s not much she can do even if she wants to try and evict us. Fingers crossed we hear something on the house sale soon, but there’s no news on that front at the moment.
Mum and Dad cheered us up that week with a lovely delivery of some chocolates and flowers though so that was nice! We’ve also entertained ourselves with a virtual National Theatre show (Corialanus), low-FODMAP donuts, a Lunar New Year celebration dinner of dumplings and a delicious homemade lasagne in the last week.
I was down in Eltham yesterday for an appointment and Eltham Palace grounds was open for exercise purposes so I went for a walk around and the moat was frozen! It’s amazing how much of a difference being a little further out of the city makes, as there was still lots of snow on the ground as well. I grabbed a takeaway coffee and had a very brisk walk around before heading home to warm up.
We’ve ordered a fancy afternoon tea for Valentine’s Day this afternoon and have some fun plans for the half-term break so I’ll hopefully have some content for next week’s blog post.
