It’s been a surprisingly busy week, although a relaxing one as well. We started off the fun with a delightful afternoon tea last Sunday afternoon. Peter’s family had sent us some champagne for his uncle’s birthday Zoom celebration so we opened that with our afternoon tea and enjoyed tasting the different little sandwiches, cakes and scones – all gluten-free and all absolutely delicious. After we’d eaten we joined the Zoom call to say happy birthday and catch up with Peter’s mum, cousins and some aunts and uncles, which was a lovely way to finish the weekend.
Peter was working night shifts over the weekend and Monday night so I spent Monday and Tuesday mornings catching up on some planning and other administration for work. Due to home learning, we’ve had no ‘management time’ this term, which we usually use to catch up on the admin for the subjects we lead so I had a fair backlog of work for geography. We’re applying for the Primary Geography Quality Mark this year, which comes with quite a load of evidence-collecting and administration, so I created our document and did a bit of research into that on Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon I was feeling very organised and caught up and was happy to switch off for the rest of the week!
Tuesday was Pancake Day (aka Shrove Tuesday), which is a huge thing here, so for dinner we made blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, which were absolutely delicious!
I’d followed a different recipe to usual and it was a huge improvement. We also started watching the first Harry Potter film, which felt like a nice magical match to pancakes for dinner! Across the rest of the week we’ve continued watching a Harry Potter film each day, and we’re now up to the second last one.
Thursday night was our usual film night with Rachel and Stu and we watched Pirates of the Caribbean with a riff track over the top (people basically making fun of the film), which made for a lot of laughs. We made our own wine tasting on Friday night by buying three bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon from different parts of the world, setting up a ‘blind taste’ using numbers on glasses and watched some YouTube videos on the style. Both of us were wrong on our guesses of where each one was from, but the favourite from the bunch was an Australian bottle from Margaret River.
On Saturday night we caught up with a bunch of our friends from a beer taste group on Zoom and had some beers together while catching up on the last few months’ news. It was a great catch up and a nice opportunity to discuss some of the nicer beers we’ve had recently. We’re having a quiet day today and after a nice walk this afternoon and my book club on Zoom, we’re planning to finish the 7th Harry Potter movie.
