The Meadow Glamping, England, United Kingdom
On Friday when Peter woke up, we got our stuff together and headed over to Enterprise. We picked up the car at about 3:15 but given most of the driving we had to do was around the M25, by the time we reached the turnoff to leave London properly we hit a bit of traffic. We ended up reaching the village of Broughton just before 6 and easily found the property with the glamping site down a little lane off the high street.
We were greeted by Pete, the owner’s partner, and Kate soon appeared to show us around the site. The gypsy wagon was set up by a little stream at the back of the property, with a view over the field on the other side of the water. We had our own compost toilet, mini ‘kitchen’ set up, little couch under a shelter by a campfire and even a hammock by the stream! It was all very private, a stand of bamboo sheltering us from the other two sites.
We explored the wagon and the hamper of food that we’d ordered ahead – including buffalo steaks and burgers! I was starving so we got the fire going quickly and started to prepare and cook our buffalo burgers with the buns and veg we’d brought with us. The longer days definitely make glamping easier, giving us light well beyond dinner time. The burgers were surprisingly delicious (I wasn’t sure what buffalo would be like!) and we settled down to read for a while as we let our food settle.
We’d found marshmallows in the ice box of the wagon so later in the evening we roasted marshmallows before retreating to the wagon as the weather cooled down. We got the log burner inside going, as the temperature was dropping rapidly. They’d had a very cold week so Kate had warned us that it would be a good idea to warm up the cabin with the log burner before we went to sleep. After a minor panic when we found a wasp in the wagon, and a minute to chase it out, we settled down to bed.
