It was back to school and back to reality this week, although the blow was softened by having an INSET (curriculum) day on Monday. We spent Monday in leadership meetings and planning for the term, which meant we felt super prepared once the children started on Tuesday. I’ve had a funny week of transitioning to supporting year 5 during maths so it’s been lots of new names and slightly different content.
The trees around school are all blossoming, so it’s been lovely seeing the changes and the new leaves on the trees each day as I walk to and from school. The longer days are also making it a lot easier to get up super early for runs, because I’m getting beautiful sunrises as part of the deal!
We started watching the new season of Masterchef Aus on Monday, which was nice but by the end of the week we’re already behind! I don’t know if we’ll be able to stay caught up with other plans and other tv shows, but it’s nice to watch it a bit.
On Wednesday evening we had a wine tasting that Peter organised through Cambridge Wines and we shared the samples to make them a reasonable size for a midweek session. They were all Burgundy wines and really nice and given the last bottle was a £60 bottle of wine, it was great value for money!
As usual on Thursday, we had movie night, and we watched Top Gun with a riff track for Rachel’s birthday. I hadn’t seen it and it was about as plot-less as I expected it to be – good for a giggle though, especially with the jokes over the top.
A few weeks ago Peter got us a booking at the Midnight Apothecary for Friday afternoon, a bar that is set up in the grounds and rooftop garden of the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. We went along and it was so nice to sit in the sun in a bar with a lovely cocktail! It was also a nice surprise when the Mayflower pub was organising food as well, and we both got fantastic burgers.
It was a nice social weekend for a change, and after our Friday night drinks, we also had a booking at Brick Brewery on Saturday for beers with Lee and Sus. We had planned to get lunch but the street food vendor hadn’t showed up, so it ended up just being beers followed by a late take-away lunch from the burger place next door. It was a fabulous day and we ended up sitting in the sun for a few hours, which resulted in both of us being pretty sunburnt by the time we got home – especially Peter! We also had a virtual bottle-share event with friends in the evening, so had a great day of catch ups and socialising.
On Sunday we skyped Mum and Dad in the morning, and then I headed off at lunch-time-ish to make my way to Regent’s Park for book club. This was our first in-person meet up and we had to split up in little groups of 6 spread out through the park. It was a great catch up talking about ‘Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men’, which made for really interesting conversation. When we finished up at 3, I had to rush home to make it back for the next book club meet up online. It’s not often that they fall on the same day and it’s always busy! The virtual one was about ‘Wild Embers’, a poetry collection, and that also resulted in really interesting discussion. We’re finishing the evening by watching Masterchef, so definitely giving my brain a bit of a break!
