Birthday weekend

Southwark Park, England, United Kingdom
Last week was fairly uneventful aside from breaking my glasses on Thursday. I had a bit of a panic but ultimately superglued the arm back on and booked an appointment at Specsavers. I’m fairly certain I need a prescription update anyway so will just buy new glasses at that point.
Last Saturday we had a great catch up at Clapham Common with our ‘bottle share’ group of friends, and on Sunday caught the train out to Amersham for a walk through the woods to spot some bluebells. We had timed it perfectly this time and there was a carpet of the flowers spread underneath the trees. Absolutely beautiful! It was a long weekend but Peter was working, so I just had a quiet rest day, caught up on some bits and pieces and read a lot.
Thursday was my birthday and I felt very spoilt. We had a skype call with Mum and Dad first thing, which was really nice, and then when I arrived at work my teaching partner had decorated my desk with balloons, bunting and a banner. The kids were way too hyped up all day as a result, but it was good fun. As part of birthday treats, I bought myself a new phone. This is the first ‘new’ phone I’ve had in about 10 years so it’s very exciting to have one with a decent battery life and a good camera. Peter picked it up during the day on Thursday so I came home to this as well as him baking me a cake! I felt very spoilt and had a lovely evening of bad movie, takeaway sushi and (of course) some champagne.
We went to Plonk ‘crazy golf’ (mini golf) on Friday night and had a couple of cocktails as we played the 9 rounds. It was a lot of fun and definitely felt like a hilariously ‘hipster’ East London thing to do. When we headed home, Peter cooked a beautiful piece of salmon for dinner before he started nightshift.  On Saturday it was pouring all morning and I was quite nervous about our plans for a birthday picnic, but it stopped raining at around midday so by 2:30 I was able to set up picnic blankets at Southwark Park, where I met our friends (you’re allowed 6 people outdoors at the moment). Tess, Justin and Cameron all didn’t know each other so it was nice to chat all together as they got to know each other, and then Peter joined us once he was up at about 4. The longer days make gatherings like this much easier now and the sun even came out at around 5. We all headed home at around 7 and had an easy dinner and an early night.
Ruth had Peter go and get a nice piece of meat and some lovely wine from Fortnum & Masons for my birthday so we had birthday dinner take 3 on Sunday evening. It was a beautiful piece of beef that was just lightly roasted and we had it with roast vegetables and salad. So it’s been a delightful birthday week, and it’s been nice to be able to do a few more things than last year!
