Regina to Calgary

Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Our flight to Calgary was at 5:30 am so we had get up pretty early and take a cab to the airport. It was good that Heather had pre-arranged a taxi because the cab-driver told us there was still a long wait for cabs after all the Halloween parties overnight.

We arrived in Calgary at 7 am, but our flight to London wasn't scheduled to leave until 7 pm. We rented a car (only $21 for the day) so that we wouldn't be stuck in the airport all day.

First we met our friend James for breakfast at a Cora's restaurant near the airport.

Then we went shopping for several hours to pick up for a few items we thought we'd need on the trip. This included the obligatory stop at MEC which we always seem to make when in Calgary.

In the afternoon we met up with Rick - another old friend - for drinks and snacks at Last Best downtown.

While there, we received an update from West Jet that our departure was delayed from 7 until 9. Then a bit later the departure was delayed further to 11 pm. And then further still to midnight. We'd already been up since 3 am, so this extra 5 hours of wait time was not welcome news.

Since we had time to kill but didn't want to sit at the airport all evening we ended up at an Original Joes near the airport where we ate supper.

Returned the car to the airport at about 10 and went to the counter to find out what was going on with the flight. (Turns out that our plane needed a part that they didn't have in Calgary and so they were waiting for one to be flown out from Toronto.)

We discussed options for what we would do if the flight were cancelled, such as getting a hotel and rebooking on other flights the next day. But it all turned out to be unnecessary as the fight went ahead at midnight after all. We did get some meal vouchers from west jet though, which we used to buy a bunch of sandwiches to bring with us on the plane.
