Rainy Day in London

London, England, United Kingdom
Woke and showered. Ken ate breakfast. Took the subway to 'the city' for our reservation at the sky garden. As with most attractions in London, we had to go through a security screening before we could go in.

The roof of the building was very cool, with a sloped garden and a sidewalk running all around the perimeter so you could enjoy the view from all sides.

On the side of the building facing the river there was a balcony so you could go out and look down.

After that we walked through 'the city' to see a few of the other landmark buildings.

Eventually we made it to the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge.

By this time it was starting to rain so we didn't linger on the bridge for long.

We explored a little on the south side of the bridge and then went into the city hall building and sat in the cafeteria for a while to warm up.

Walked to the London bridge train station near The Shard.

From there we caught a subway train to the British Museum where we took a relatively quick look around at the mummies and what not.

Its way too big to cover in one visit, but like the National Gallery, it's free so we can leave and come back for more on another day.

Then walked back to the flat to eat lunch and rest for a bit. We had been pretty cold ever since it started raining, so we changed into warmer clothes for our evening walking tour of Knightsbridge pubs.

We road the subway to South Kensington where we found our tour group (with some difficulty) led by Fiona. The tour took us on a walk through the posh lanes and alleyways from there to Knightsbridge. It's a very posh (and very expensive) area. We passed a couple of real estate agents and there were one-bedroom apartments going for well over a million pounds. As we walked, our guide told us about how the area developed over time with different architectural styles from one block to the next. She also pointed out former residences of many famous people, from David Frost to William Burroughs.

After the tour we walked back up Brampton road past Harrods department store and stopped at an Indian restaurant for supper. Then back to the subway and rode it home.
