Guy Fawkes Day

London, England, United Kingdom
Slept in. Went for groceries first thing as our guest ate all our bread. Didn't get out of the house until 11:00 am.

Went to the Novelty Automation Museum, which is a tiny place full of unique animatronic games just a few blocks from the flat.

Walked to Coven Garden and had a quick look at the shops and the crowds.

Met up with our Harry Potter Film Location walking tour at 2:00. We walked to several locations around Westminster, up Whitehall and near Trafalgar Square.

After the walking tour we stopped at the Playhouse Theatre and bought tickets to 'An Inspector Calls' on Wed at 7:30.

Rode the tube to Camden Town and had a quick look at the market before walking to Primrose Hill to watch the Guy Fawkes day fireworks. On the way to the hill we were wandering through streets of Camden Town and happened upon a corner that looked exactly like the place where the movie The Lady in the Van was filmed (and where the story took place in real life, as well). We googled it later and it turns out it was the very place.

We bought some water and a couple ciders and drank them sitting on the hillside with the rest of the crowd. The view of the city at night was spectacular, but most of the fireworks were very far off. Still, it was cool to see a dozen different fireworks displays all going off at the same time.

Then rode the tube back down to Trafalgar Square and watched the police managing the crowd of Anonymous protesters. (Anonymous adopted the mask used in V for Vendetta, which is a stylized version of a Guy Fawkes mask, so I guess they adopted Guy Fawkes day as theirs as well.)

All entrances to the square were blockaded by police so when we finally decided to leave we had to approach the line and ask to be let out.

Then walked home to the flat. Strangely the Square Pig pub on the corner was dark. It's been open (and packed) every night since we got here, and now on Saturday night it's closed? Odd.
