Sleeping the day away

New Delhi, Delhi, India
I guess you could say we overslept. It was early afternoon when we finally got up. Heather had slept for 14 hours straight, Ken a little less.

Ken showered and went up to the roof for lunch. Heather stayed in the room for a while doing yoga and then joined him. More fireworks this afternoon.

We decided since we'd slept away our 2nd day in Delhi we'd better extend our hotel reservation by a day or two so that we get a chance to see the sights before we move on. As a bonus, the smog situation has improved today, perhaps because it's the weekend, so we're not in as much of a rush to get out of the city as we were yesterday.

Down in the lobby we stopped at the tour desk to discuss options for getting around to key cities in Rajasthan. Then extended our stay at the hotel by one day so we have time to decide where to go next.

Went for a short walk around the neighborhood. It was still crazy.

Stopped at a liquor store and bought big bottle of beer to take back to the room (and got over charged). Then walked back to the hotel and went for supper in the upstairs restaurant again, mostly because we can charge it to the room and don't need to use any cash.

(The cash shortage is ongoing. The ATMs are all out and people are lining up for hours at the banks to get cash. The newspaper said that police got over 3000 calls yesterday about fights breaking out in banks and riot police were deployed in some neighborhoods.)

Supper was really good again (though not as good as the place last night). Then we retired to our room to review the tour options, from where we could hear the fireworks continue sporadically until late.
