Sorbas, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands
Hi folks,
We have been watching this site being developed over the last 4 years, I made enquiries about caravan pitches a couple of years ago and they weren’t ready but earlier this year we had an email from the manager that they were now ‘fully open’. There are obviously different versions of the term ‘fully open’ as you will read later! And it’s not in Sorbas but 4 miles away out in the hills, the peace and quiet are great though.
The final part of the journey was a little enlightening, as we moved further up the hills there was a constant stream af heavy lorries going both ways, thankfully just before getting to the town of Sorbas they were turning off the road and disappearing into the desert area, we later learned that they head off to a gypsum mine, get loaded up and then head off back to the docks somewhere in the area and therefore don’t go anywhere near the site. We passed through Sorbas and headed out into the hills ourselves, conscious of the terrain, ‘up hill and down dale’ as we say back in Gods country. The site or resort as it is known was a good 4 miles out and the journey to the shop would be on our new electric bikes, or non electric bike, read on!
We checked in and were surprised at how quiet it was, just one other unit, a Brit couple who lived near Alicante. The site is a well thought out space and has had a lot of money invested in it, transforming it from a desert area into a spacious site, the pitches are massive with water and waste in the very near area if not on the pitch itself, the toilet block is of hotel standard. There is also a pool (closed) and a bar (closed) and a little restaurant (closed), get my drift about the definition of ‘fully open’? Should actually be ‘fully closed’. The boules pitch and large chess game are open though! We booked on here for 12 nights so we are going to enjoy the peace whilst here although having been here 5 nights already custom is picking up, there are now 4 units :)
We did need some victuals so I decided to get the bike off and go into town, with my shopping list in hand off I went. A fairly uneventful trip there and back and managed to get everything I was sent for, I say ‘was sent for’ as I wouldn’t normally volunteer to go shopping. It was decided that as the trip was fairly easy on electric bikes we would venture in and have a look around. Top tip…. Make sure an electric bike is fully charged before a journey, we hadn’t used the bikes since we left UK and the trip into Sorbas is downhill, no problems but after a mile coming back Maureen’s bike died. Chivalry prevailed and I handed Bonnie to Maureen along with my bike and she set off back. I then had to either push or pedal the non-electric bike up hill most of the way back. A friendly local policeman did offer me a lift but at that stage I was at the top of the final hill and it was less than half a mile downhill to the camp gate. It was a very good workout, on a small bike but it was a good lesson to learn early on!
We still have another week here and have at least another bike tripped planned, fingers crossed it will be 100% better. Oh well, back to a bit of sunbathing and a bit of lunch
Stay safe.

Loved your last 3 blogs, all received today! The site at Sorbus sounds like it will be great when fully open, hope you got discount for facilities not available. Getting back up hill with the weight of an electric bike was a workout indeed, I bet you had a large glass of water! ;)
