Hi folks,
It’s us again, now on a little site 4 miles outside York, level gravel pitches with a unisex toilet block, seems a bit odd coming out of the shower to see three teenagers stood at the sinks brushing their teeth, nothing strange about that apart from two were girls, Maureen didn’t like the concept and I think in todays climate it may need to change. We noticed a ‘Greene King’ pub just down the road so as we do we had to check it out and meandered off for a G and T and a pint.
Day 2 and a bus trip into town, we stood at the bus stop in good time, the bus turned up and the driver says ‘get the bus from the other stop it goes straight into town and is due in 7 minutes, this one goes all around the houses’, so we went to the other stop. And the bus never turned up! So we walked the four miles down the side of the river which was pleasant enough although we got a bit damp in one shower but were dry again shortly afterwards. I used to cycle as a kid from Leeds to York and go into all the attractions, however times have certainly changed, to visit all the touristy bits would have cost us over £100, each! There is enough to see around York without paying those prices so we meandered up and down the old parts, taking in ‘The Shambles’ which is very ‘Harry Potter’ themed, shopkeepers dressed as the characters which Maureen named as we went along. The queue outside some of the tiny shops was near on 30 people in some cases! We dropped into ‘The three tuns’ pub, named after the containers in the pub yard that housed the ale in the olden days, sloping floors, low roofs, it was a real blast from the past. Maureen spotted one of our favourites ‘Birra Moretti’ so we had to give it a try. A bit more walking and as the temperature changed we decided to head off for the bus. We found the stop, checked the timetable and headed back to the train station to waste half an hour, drinking ale of course…
We are novices at bus catching and it showed. A bus was pulled up at our stop, not the one we wanted, that one stopped behind, so we are thinking that it would wait for the front one to move then creep forward and stop but oh no…. It went round and drove off… a bit of chasing and shouting and it pulled in and I burst through the doors, the driver was a bit shocked but we were on and on our way back. Lesson learned, if the bus pulls in make our way to it straight away.
Yesterday was going to be a quiet day, no plans as we were going to be waiting for the windscreen guys to come and change the windscreen which had a crack in it, they cancelled so we decided to have a go at geocaching, what a great few hours we had. I won’t go into it here but will start another blog as we are going to have another go at the next stop. We did cover 6 miles though! The evening was spent watching the England ladies drum their opponents 10-0 in the World Cup qualifiers!
This morning was a bit of an early start as the windscreen fitters were coming, they called and were on their way so the job was complete by about ten, bit of breakfast, some admin and we are now at Tesco’s stocking up before heading off to our next site at Filey, still in God’s Country although he needs to sort the weather out, it’s currently 7°. More to follow in a few days

Looks great folks. Keeping meaning to pop into York as we have a static about 40 mins away. The photos you’ve taken will now MAKE us go. Especially the quaint pub. Lol See you both soon.
