Great Orton, England, United Kingdom
Hi folks,
Something a bit different, we are on a site tucked onto the back of a pub, level hard standings, no toilets unless the pub is open and no showers though we have our own anyway. No geocaches in the area!
After getting here and setting up, by that I mean plugging in the electric, we went for a short walk through the village which is some 900 years old and very much a farming community. We picked up some free range eggs from the end of someone’s drive, small cottage business. There and back was about a mile so it was into the pub to watch the football semi final and a beverage. We had booked a table for dinner and the food was both reasonably priced and very good indeed.
Yesterday we had a lazy start and didn’t have breakfast till 11, then it was walking boots on as we were venturing up bridlepaths and footpaths towards the old airfield and nature reserve. The airfield was operational during the war and closed in 1952. It was then used as a burial ground for animals during the foot and mouth disease and turned over to be a nature reserve in the early ‘noughties’. We came across a rope swing which Maureen had to have a go of, it was over a small stream but all worked out well. We spotted a couple of swans lazing in a field and tons of manure, what a stink. The walk was about 4.5 miles in total, a bit less than we have been doing. The weather was sunny and warm with a nice breeze. They have obviously had some rain as the bridle path was a quagmire, back at the motorhome it was bucket out and boots scrubbed. We watched the other football semi final whilst chilling in the motorhome, then it was into the pub for dinner and a pint. A bit of telly in the evening, ‘The Battle of Midway’, a bit of history!
We are on the move this morning across to Maryport on the west coast, a journey of about an hour, meeting up with friends so will see what that brings, hopefully the weather will pick up as it rained overnight and is dull and grey this morning

You are visiting quite a lot of ale houses on this trip? Just glad no caches behind the bars or the trip maybe a disaster????

Great blog and really interesting places. Nice idea to have a memorial to the animals lost to F&M. Lovely photo of Maureen on the swing!
