Last day in Ontario

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Friday, June 20

We left our campsite early and headed west, and as we approached the city of Thunder Bay we watched a double rainbow form, which arched over the sign "Entering Thunder Bay" just as we entered the city, with no possibility of taking a photograph . One of those pictures, like that of yesterday's bear, which will have to live in our memories and not on photo paper or computer screen. We got one last view of the Sleeping Giant from a scenic lookout over the bay, while thunder clouds were forming. We stopped a bit later to admire Kakabeka Falls, which were flowing furiously because of all the rain they had had. Around Raith, just before we crossed into the Central Time Zone, we passed a sign announcing that we were crossing a watershed, and that from here on water would be flowing into the Arctic Ocean. My goodness, we really are in the north! And northern Ontario is really big; it has taken us three days to drive across it. Just after crossing into Manitoba, we stopped for the night at Falcon Lake, which will leave just a short drive to tomorrow's destination, Winnipeg.  (I know this entry states that we have already arrived there, but we haven't. This program doesn't recognize smaller places, so I have to choose the nearest big city in order to get started!)
